Biography

Samantha Makiwa is the Nurse Manager at Dublin Simon Community’s Blood Borne Virus, Respite Stabilisation Unit. She completed general nursing and midwifery training in Zimbabwe at United Bulawayo Hospitals and the Mpilo School of Midwifery. She attained a BSc (Hons) in Nursing for Clinical practice at Waterford Institute of Technology and completed a Master's in Nursing at South East Technological University. She holds a Certificate in Counselling and Therapy, as well as a Certificate in Community-Based HIV Capacity Development. Prior to relocating to Ireland in 2018, she worked in the public and private sectors as a general nurse, nurse manager, and midwife. She worked as a nurse counselor at an NGO and was instrumental in the development of educational materials on Menstruation hygiene management in collaboration with a Netherlands Development Organisation. She has a special interest in attaining best quality. Patient transformation and leading a motivated team are the most satisfying aspects of her work. She is passionate about meeting patients’ needs, and staff wellbeing.
