  • Title: Strategic Nursing Care Management Through Indicators and Anticipatory Actions: Experience From a Brazilian Private Hospital

Abstract

The increasing complexity of healthcare systems has reinforced the need for nursing management models based on quality indicators, operational efficiency, patient safety, and proactive care coordination. In this context, nursing leadership has assumed a strategic role in integrating clinical, operational, and managerial processes within hospital institutions.
This study aimed to describe the structuring of nursing care management through the implementation of strategic indicators and anticipatory actions in a large private hospital in Brazil.
A descriptive experience report was conducted at Hospital Nipo-Brasileiro, involving inpatient units, critical care areas, and multidisciplinary interfaces. The project was developed through the organization of nursing management processes supported by care indicators, daily operational monitoring, proactive risk identification, and anticipatory interventions performed by nursing leadership teams. The implemented strategies included structured management dashboards, monitoring of occupancy and patient flow indicators, identification of discharge barriers, workforce dimensioning analysis, multidisciplinary alignment, and early intervention in operational and care-related demands.
The implementation of these actions promoted greater visibility of nursing performance indicators, improved communication among teams, enhanced decision-making processes, optimized resource allocation, and strengthened patient safety practices. Additionally, the initiative contributed to increased nursing engagement in institutional strategic planning and operational efficiency.
The experience demonstrated that structured nursing management supported by strategic indicators and anticipatory actions can improve healthcare organization, strengthen leadership performance, and contribute to safer and more efficient patient care.
